Thoracoscopy Sympathectomy Discharge Instructions:

Remove dressing(s) in 48 hours. You do not need to cover the wound(s). The suture holding the wound closed is
absorbable and under the skin surface.

You may shower gently after dressing(s) is removed. No tub baths, hot tubs or swimming for 2 weeks. But you can
engage in any other activity as tolerated.

It is anticipated that you will have some local discomfort after the surgery. Sometimes patients feel associated
numbness in front of the wound. Others feel higher intensity waxing and waning discomfort. The discomfort will
wane over the next few days or weeks.

You have a prescription for Vicodin/___________ with refills. You may also take Motrin (Advil, Ibuprofen) 200mg
every 8 hours in addition or in place of Vicodin as needed.

You cannot drive if you are taking narcotic (such as Vicodin) pain medicine or you cannot turn the steering wheel
because of discomfort.

If your wound develops increased redness, drainage or pain – you can call our office. If you feel that the problem
is urgent you should proceed to your local Emergency Room.
