• I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for performing my Sympathectomy. It was a success! My recovery from the procedure has progressed quite nicely. The incisions are gradually healing. I am happy to report that I am very very pleased with the results. My facial and scalp sweating is practically gone or has reduced to very close to zero. My biggest test was when I had to give a 45 minute discourse in front of an audience of 150 persons one week after the Sympathectomy. No sweating at all during the entire presentation! I was so excited! My hands are 100% dry which is wonderful. It feels good to be able to work, shake hands, and even hold my wife's hand without hand sweat. My feet sweating has improved some but not completely dry; that's OK. I can live with it, not a problem. I do have some compensatory sweating. The back of my legs (from my hamstring to ankle) and the middle of my back. But do not happen that often. When it does occur the majority of the time it is very light and also not a problem at all. I must say that I am glad I went ahead with the surgery. It really has changed my life for the better! Thanks again to you and your staff/Kim; as well as the staff at Providence Hospital. Compensatory sweating occurs in about 25-30% of our patients. Occasionally (about 1%) it can become severe. The advantage of clips are that removal allows reversal in about 2/3 of these patients. Also, patients with arm pit sweating and facial blushing seem to have higher rates of both compensatory sweating and recurrent sweating. Recurrence is rare in those with hand sweating. It is our policy to send questionnaires to all patients and publish their confidential responses, even if they are not fully complimentary:

• My hands are about 75% dryer than before - which is a great asset to my life.
• Yes, very. I have some compensatory sweating on my upper legs. But not bothersome.
• The surgery did what it was supposed to, stop the sweating on my hands and armpits. However, the compensatory sweating has become problematic. I've been getting Robinul samples for chest and back sweating but was thinking I should probably get a script
• Yes, I am satisfied. The first few months I did not sweat at all. It's now starting to come back just not as severe.
• Somewhat, I was dry for about three months, after that I started to sweat like I did before the operation, more in my right arm pit than my left. I liked the months I was dry!
• Actually no I'm not. The compensatory sweating has made everything worse. I sweat all over my body (back, stomach, feet) including under arms. Overall it has been unpleasant…the 24-48 hours after surgery as miserable.
• At first the compensatory sweating was unbearable but it has somewhat decreased. I feel I am starting to sweat more from the underarms again.
